EDITION 1.0 (2026) — CHANGELOG
doi:10.5281/zenodo.22863229

2026-09-23
• Named the two boundary points that fix the globe's centre — the south tip of
Guam (13.235°N 144.645°E) and the east end of St. Croix (17.752°N 64.568°W) —
and drew the great circle between them through the centre, with its WGS 84
length (15,324 km). Labelled the centre's coordinates on the globe. The centre
itself is unchanged and is now derived by compute_center.py from the 2025
archive rather than carried over from 2024.
• Extended the insular-area table with citizenship at birth, voice in Congress,
presidential electors, SSI eligibility and geodesic distance from the centre,
each cell cited to statute or case law in the notes beneath the table. The
scope note now names the excluded Guano Act claims and the disputed status of
  Navassa and Wake.
• Town and capital labels are now placed on water, so the paper halo is never
visible and a marker is never covered (Ponce had been boxed and dotless).
• Sheets are rebuilt from build.py rather than patched: content streams are
compressed (≈2.8 MB per PDF instead of 7.7 MB) and the document information
dictionary carries subject, creator and keywords.
• source-verification.json now records the 2025 archive (re-downloaded and
hash-matched 2026-09-23) with the 2024 archive as the comparison baseline.
• Build scripts read and write UTF-8 explicitly and create their output
directory; the previous chain could not run on a default Windows Python.
Geometry, projections, panel rectangles and extents are unchanged.

2026-09-22
• Changed the permanent address to https://viupdate.com/map/ in both sheet
QR codes, printed links, card 12, and the source configuration. Map
geometry, projections, labels and panel positions are unchanged.

2026-09-20
• Replaced the Census 2024 national 1:500,000 archive with the official
  GENZ2025 cb_2025_us_state_500k.zip. Boundaries as of January 1, 2025.
• Compared the five inhabited territory geometries in local equal-area metres.
No material geometry change at published scales. The largest Hausdorff
separation is approximately 0.0901 m in the U.S. Virgin Islands; Puerto
Rico is approximately 0.00292 m. See Boundary_Comparison.json for all values.
• Preserved the regional extents, projections, panel positions, globe center,
globe radius and the retained OpenStreetMap atoll detail.
• Kept the 2020 population counts on a separate citation line.
• Corrected Asuncion to 19.6725°N, 145.4058°E; unified Midway Atoll.
• Added author, ORCID, reserved version DOI, corrections address, text-only
collar wordmark, CC BY 4.0 compilation rights and underlying data licenses.
• Added the permalink and QR, with each imprint line separately editable.
• Confirmed four commercially distributable, embeddable DejaVu typefaces.
• Exported the two-sheet CMYK print and RGB screen PDFs, coordinate/scale
checklist, standalone source hash manifest and licensed source bundle.
• Added 24 social cards, 12 alt-text files, link preview and five transparent
4000px-wide territory panels; the social layouts are independent of the PDFs.
• Added a static download page with real HTML scale and insular-area tables.

The version DOI is reserved; a reservation alone is not publication.
The landing page records the concept DOI after Zenodo publication.
